Skijoring and Dogsledding
Trails
Dogsledding and skijoring are permitted on designated trails within Three Rivers Park District. A special use permit is required on two trails that are shared with snowmobiles; other multi-use trails do not require a permit and are not open to snowmobiling.
Permit is valid during the winter season; trails permitting, and expires March 31. Permit must be carried while on the trails. Dog sleds with rubber wheels are allowed only at Murphy-Hanrehan and Crow-Hassan until the trails are snow-covered. A cross-country ski pass is not required when skijoring or dogsledding.
A Special Use Permit is required on the following trails*:
Crow-Hassan Snowmobile Trail (5 miles) Park information | Park map

*These are designated sections of snowmobile trails, open for dogsledding and skijoring weekdays during daylight hours and weekends/holidays from 5a.m. to 10a.m. These trails are packed. Use CAUTION as snowmobile trails are heavily used on weekends and holidays.
No Special Use Permit is required on the following trails: (Trails open during daylight hours)
Murphy-Hanrehan Multi-Use Trail (5.5 miles) Park information | Park map
The designated trail is shared with horseback riders, snowshoers, mountain bikers, hikers, and leashed dogs and is open during daylight hours. This trail is not packed. Access is from the Sunset Lake Road parking lot.
Baker Multi-Use Trail (4 miles) Park information | Park map
This is a multi-use trail for dogsledding, skijoring, mountain biking and snowshoeing. Access is available from the parking lot on County Road 201, south of County Road 24.
Elm Creek Multi-Use Trail (4.5 miles) Park information | Park map
Skijoring and dogsledding are permitted on this multi-use trail, which is shared with snowshoers, hikers, and leashed dogs. Access is from the trail parking lot off Elm Creek Road, east of Fernbrook Lane.
Cleary Lake Multi-Use Trail (1.3 miles) Park information | Park map
This multi-use trail permits dogsledding, skijoring, cross-country skiing (skate), and snowshoeing. Access is from the main parking lot.
Permit is not transferable. There is a replacement fee for lost permits.
Permit holder is responsible for Ordinance violations and/or damage to Park District property.
Violations of Park District Ordinance are misdemeanors and can result in revocation of permit, citation, and/or arrest. A copy of the Ordinance is available upon request.
