Hiring Policy

Three Rivers Park District utilizes a merit system for regular employment. This means that positions are open competitive (advertised to the public), dates are established for filing applications, applications are reviewed for qualifications, and qualified applicants are invited to participate in the selection process. Certified finalists are placed on an eligibility list from which appointments are made. This process generally takes between 45 and 60 days to complete.

Seasonal employees are hired on an as needed basis, and generally the selection process is no more than an interview with a start date almost immediately thereafter. Supervisors at each park conduct these interviews and make the selection decisions. Seasonal employment is employment at will, meaning the employee has no status under the Human Resources Policies and may be terminated for any reason or no reason at all and the duration of employment is limited to a maximum of eleven months in a twelve month period.
